May 2025 Election Update

116,483 ballots were cast in Bexar County, with voter turnout at 9.26%. Early voting turnout was especially low.

San Antonio Mayor’s Race:

Mayoral candidates Gina Ortiz Jones and Rolando Pablos are headed to a runoff for the open Mayor’s seat. Read more about the Mayoral runoff here.

City Council Races:

Four of the ten City Council seat races are in a runoff. See which candidates are heading to the June 7 runoff as well as those who declared victory on May 3rd below.

District 1 – runoff

District 1 was a crowded race with 10 total candidates. Incumbent District 1 Councilwoman Dr. Sukh Kaur & Patty Gibbons are headed to a runoff on June 7. Read more about the District 1 runoff here.

District 2:
Incumbent Councilman
Jalen McKee-Rodriguez has been re
elected to his third and final term
on City Council.
He won with 61.37% of the vote.
District 3:
Incumbent Council woman
Phyllis Viagran
has been re-elected to
her third and final term on City
Council, continuing the Viagran
legacy in District 3.
She won with 57.34 % of the vote.
 District 4:
Four candidates ran for the open
seat in District 4 race and
Edward Mungia won. He currently serves
as staff in the District 4.
He won with 56.78% of the vote
 District 5:
Incumbent Councilwoman
Teri Castillo has been re-elected to her
third and final term on City
Council.
She won with 76.81% of the vote

District 6:

Eight candidates threw in their names for the District 6 seat, all with various backgrounds and experience. Ric Galvan & Kelly Ann Gonzalez advance to the June

 District 7:
Incumbent Councilwoman
Marina Aldrete Gavito has been re
elected to her second term on City
Council.
She won with 71.57% of the vote

District 8:

Kelly Ann Gonzalez 19.70% Six candidates lined up for the open seat in District 8. Ivalis Meza Gonzalez & Paula McGee advance to the June 7 runoff. Read more about the District 8 runoff here.

District 9:

Paula McGee 22.22% The District 9 race was tight, with 7 candidates. Angi Taylor-Aramburu & Misty Spears advance to the June 7 runoff. Read more about the District 9 runoff here.

District 10:
The incumbent Councilman
Marc Whyte has been re-elected to his
second term on City Council.
He won with 69.13% of the vote.
